On 24/2/10, it was the annual Cross Country run for HCI, everyone has to run a long distance or either 3km or 4km. It was in the early morning, at around 8am when we started the cross country run. Even the teachers had to run! We were all energized and all ready to start. Before the run, we did our warm up. Our warm up comprises of exercises which really stretch our muscles and get us all ready for the run. When we, Sec 1, started the run, we were all exuberant with smiles all over our faces. While I ran, I conserved precious stamina for later on. In addition, I ran with friends, thus making the run more lively and less boring.
Halfway through the run, I felt my stamina dropping, my legs wobbling. However, I told myself many times not to stop and to keep running on. Upon reaching the last 100metres, the crowd was cheering wildly for me, as I felt a strong urge to sprint at top speed towards the much awaited finish line. As I sprinted, I heard the screams and cheers from the crowd, it was fantastic motivation.
I feel that the school should have more cross country runs in a year, maybe biannually. This is to build up the perseverance in all of us, and the never-give-up attitude. The run was however tiring, but absolutely fruitful and enriching too.
